Road Trip Poetry Manifesto
Words shimmer on the horizon
like summer heat
could be a mirage.
Cross country road trip
each center stripe a letter.
Bugs cleaned from my windscreen
the view is clear
lakes, cactus and the deep blue sea.
Paper map poetry
small dash of GPS
Road signs my grammar
rocks and mufflers my punctuation
Circle round and here I am
riding a poem again.

En español: Manifiesto Poético – En Camino
Brillan palabras en el horizonte
como el calor de verano
podría ser un espejísmo.
Un viaje a través del país
cada franja amarilla una letra.
Insectos limpiados del parabrisas
la vista está clara
lagos, cactus, y la mar azul.
Poesía hecho en mapas de papel
con un vistazo de GPS.
Letreros del camino, mi gramática
piedras y mofles*, mi punctuación.
Doy un giro completo y me encuentro
montada en un poema de nuevo.
* silenciadores

In the ’50s there was a period when I could identify cars. The knowledge was good for long road trips with younger siblings. Now those cars are considered antiques.

Cool, so you recognized the Corvette. 🙂 The 40s to 60s are some of my favorites. The models don’t seem as distinct at present.

Sounds great Rebecca! Loved the poem and what a car! As we say in Spanish, ¡menudo coche!

Thank you, dreaming of travel. We’re only at Stage 1, so only dreaming for now. The car is one of my favorites from that era.

Alas, travel plans have been cancelled for this year. I may go on the train with a friend to another part of Spain in August. if we feel safe to do so. Maybe hubby and I will take our doggie for a short road trip in the fall. Still not comfy mixing with a lot of people. Stay safe y dear. xo
