Dear Readers, we have some winter excitement here in Madison! Beginning Friday afternoon and continuing overnight into Saturday, we have our first good snow of the season. As I write this, I’m listening to the familiar sound of metal scraping pavement, a Ford truck snowplow is clearing the snow from the apartment parking lot across the street. Neighbors are sweeping the snow off their cars. Now I hear the rattle of a enormous dump truck carrying sand that it’s sprinkling on the road. However, on my walk and in the garden, the atmosphere was quieter, snow blanketing the sound.

What’s your favorite kind of weather?

Lovely. I always like the first snow. Then when it gets untidy looking and interferes with my life, I get bored with it. We don’t really get Proper Snow here any more.

Yes, Margaret, exactly! First snow is real beauty. Sorry you don’t have Proper Snow anymore. : (

How exciting! I love your photos, Rebecca! Especially the little tracks! We are still waiting for our first big snow of the season. I love the way it coats the leafless trees and boulders here. And of course it’s lovely on the red rocks! 🌞

Thanks for your kind words, Lisa! Yes, the little tracks from the hoppy jumpy chipmunk are sweet to see. Hope you get your first big snow soon!

I’m a child of the Sun 🙂 I hate the cold–for me, that’s anything below 60 degrees–and have yet to experience my first white winter.

Very welcome, give us two weeks to dig out the guest room from the boxes that are multiplying spontaneously there 😉

Gosh, I haven’t seen snow since living in France…back in sunny Los Angeles, it’s a bit nippy, but not a speck of snow anywhere. Looks like a winter wonderland in your part of the US, that’s for sure! Stay warm, and stay safe. 🙂

I’m so happy for you that you got snow. I don’t like it myself so am glad we didn’t get any so far this season.

I like how snow makes a dull day brighter (like today). I Iove how it smells and how it muffles the street sounds.

I lived snowy winters for many years. Gave that up about 20 years ago. I can’t say that I miss it, other than at Christmas. I love your black-and-white photos, and they’re so perfect for this subject! My favorite weather.? Today’s weather. As I age, I feel time slipping through my fingers. I cannot waste today’s rainy day, wishing for sunshine… It is all good.

What beautiful shots of beautiful snow! I wish we could get a really deep one. We did, however, have a white Christmas. So I can’t complain.
Thanks so much for following Oh, the Places We See. We hope to travel more in 2021, but first we need the vaccine!

Thank you, your website is well organized with lovely photos. Yes, we look forward to more mobility after the vaccine. Haven’t see my parents in a year snd they live only 250 miles away.

We’re getting a bit stir crazy in our condo, but we walk in a nearby park or the mall in early morning to avoid other people but get some exercise. It helps!

Yes, after months of inactivity, I’m finally walking regularly. It cures a lot of what ails me. 🙂
