Now this is a surprising box of pumpkins. I don’t believe I’ve seen many this shade. I’ve seen different textures before; a few are positively warty! Those make great jack-o-lanterns. On a quick search, I’ve found that the nickname of the white-colored gourds in the photo is “ghost” pumpkins and they can be used just like orange ones in pies and soups.

Do you see varieties in colors, shapes and sizes of pumpkins in stores near you?

Yes indeed, and most of them are tastier than Jack O’Lanterns. France is the country for real choice in the pumpkin department. All shapes, sizes and colours – and flavours.

Really, I’ll pick up a couple for some soup. Thanks for the tip, Margaret! I bet the French love the many varieties, foodies that they are. Since the pumpkin originated in Mexico, I bet they have amazing ones as well.

what a great colour – here in UK most people only know to carve them and waste the deliciousness inside

Never heard of Ghost Pumpkins but I’ll have a go at any pumpkin, one of my favourite vegetables 🙂

I don‘t think I‘ve ever seen a „ghost pumpkin“ „in the flesh“, as it were, but I remember a TV quiz show question where contestants were asked to check off all the colors they thought pumpkins could be. They thought white pumpkins didn‘t exist and were shown a photo as proof they were wrong! 😀 So, ever since I‘ve known about their existence … at least in theory! 🙂

What a cool example, thanks. Well informed quiz show! I may need to make a ghost pumpkin pie making post when I is make my first one.

I’ve never seen a “ghost” pumpkin. I hated eating steamed pumpkin as a kid, but loved the sweet pumpkin pone (a mixture of grated pumpkin, shredded coconut, and cornmeal).

Steamed pumpkin sounds bland, I can see why you might not have liked it. The pone sounds yummy. It could be a great breakfast!

Thank you for commenting Hammad. Your sky photo today was beautiful. I’m glad the cyclone wound down before it reached your city.

Thank you very much for liking my sky capture. The news about cyclone kept on reaching as it gained strength further in its path. Today, it made a landfall on the coast of Oman, with winds up 116 kmph.

Oh no, 116 kmph! I hope the people and animals of Oman have been able to find safety.
