Five articles with a diverse view of what it means to be from Latin America and Spain, on Fake Flamenco. Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month is September 15 – October 15.
How will you celebrate; with food, music, a book, a film perhaps?
I will celebrate by researching women playwrights from Latin America; a subject I realize I know very little about. I just read that Rosario Castellanos, a favorite Mexican writers, was also a playwright. More on this subject soon!

That map is eye-opening. I had no idea. I haven’t read a single one of those articles yet, Rebecca, but I’ve put them aside for later. Fascinating stuff.

Thanks for your interest, Margaret. The map is from an April article: https://fakeflamenco.com/2021/04/15/1762-territories-you-might-be-surprised-belonged-to-spain-like-minnesota/

This is the first time I’m seeing the 1810 map of North America. Thanks for sharing. I had no plans for celebrating Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month, but at your invitation, I’m going to read the novel, In the Belly of the Horse by Eliana Tobias that I recently ordered. I learned about her book through her blog at https://elianatobias.com/. She was born in Santiago, Chile, and now lives in Vancouver, Canada.

Thanks for your comments, Rosaliene. That sounds like a great celebration of this month! I look forward to your comments on it. You might check out the article about territories held by Spain I listed in the comments. 🙂

I’m not Latina, but these are great articles! I got a work email today about Hispanic Heritage Month, as the department I work for has and serves a large majority of the Latino community. I hope to learn more in order to celebrate and support others!
