Hi Margaret, not a Star Trek fan? You are of course correct in that they are chestnuts. They do look a lot like the round ball of fluff pets on Star Trek the original series that multiply and take over the Enterprise ship.

I had to Google “tribble,” and it turns out it’s a Star Trek thing! I have not seen those in my part of the US (i.e. the West Coast), but they are cute and furry-looking!

They are about the size if a tennis ball, fortunately these tree seeds are not as sticky as burrs!

It’s a Star Trek creature from the original series with Captain Kirk. The tribbles are round fluffy balls that make cute noises and seem like ideal pets, but they reproduce daily and take over the spaceship!
