Could it be? Tribbles are multiplying in Madison? As we were walking to mail a letter in a nearby post office box, I saw a batch of tribbles!

Next thing I knew, where there had been one, there were two!

Have you ever seen a tribble?

For Becky B’s Past Squares; spiky.

Erm? Is that what you call sweet chestnuts in the States? They are sweet chestnuts aren’t they?

Hi Margaret, not a Star Trek fan? You are of course correct in that they are chestnuts. They do look a lot like the round ball of fluff pets on Star Trek the original series that multiply and take over the Enterprise ship.

I had to Google “tribble,” and it turns out it’s a Star Trek thing! I have not seen those in my part of the US (i.e. the West Coast), but they are cute and furry-looking!

Thanks for looking it up, Rebecca. Yes, they are very cute and reproduce so quickly that they begin to fill up the space ship!

And here’s another non-Star Trek trivia expert but I’m pleased to make the acquaintance of a tribble. Who knows, the knowledge may come in handy one day.

I don’t believe I have ever seen these. They look like they might hitchhike on some clothes or poke the skin.

They are about the size if a tennis ball, fortunately these tree seeds are not as sticky as burrs!

That is a good thing – burrs are quite sticky!

It’s a Star Trek creature from the original series with Captain Kirk. The tribbles are round fluffy balls that make cute noises and seem like ideal pets, but they reproduce daily and take over the spaceship!
