It’s February, and next week is the day of love and friendship (Feb. 14th). Let’s write poetry to celebrate our buddies, our pals, our BFFs! This month our poetic form is a pareado (from two, like pair). The pareado comes from Spanish poetry for sayings and advice. See example and challenge below.
Pareado
Friendship’s like a tree house with a purple door
that says open up, laugh and enjoy life more.
–Rebecca Cuningham 7 febrero 2022

The Pareado Challenge
Write a pareado about friendship in English or Spanish by Saturday 2/12, noon CST. Celebrate a friend, friendship, or tell us the best way to make a friend. Deadline is Saturday, 12 February. If you are a blogger, please publish your poem on your website and link to this page by 2/12. If you are a poet at large, please post your poem below by Feb. 12. You may choose to write 2 to 10 lines of rhyming pairs. G-rated please. I’ll publish a post with your poems next Monday, February 14!
¡Gracias! ¡Olé! –Rebecca

Will you open the door of friendship? ¿Abrirás tú la puerta de la amistad?

Aahna, thanks for your comment. Hope you will join in. The lovely thing about a pareado is it’s just one rhyme!

I don’t know this poetic form. So, thanks for the challenges. And, thanks for the great topic Rebecca 🙂

Thanks, Suzette. Glad I could introduce you to a new form. Its brevity is to invite new poets to try it. I’m sure all your experience with haiku will be great background. I look forward to what you write on friendship 🙂

I added it to my site too, here it is:
Before the bell, we tried to find our zen;
a diamond you have been, my friend of ten.
We laughed and wished each other luck,
then shut our doors when 7:20 struck.

So, I guess I missed the deadline 🙂 No wonder. I am not a good friend.
Nevertheless, here are my two lines:
My friend, we are rooted in different places… Nothing to blame-
-the trees in the forest, aren’t they doing the same?

Great! I imagine you already speak more than one language, so it will not be as difficult to add another. 🙂 I’ve heard Duolingo is a good online program and I believe it’s free.
