I am “in like.” I have met a new poetic form; haibun. Developed in Japan, precise brush strokes transform the page like scroll painting. Haibun is half poetic prose memoir, half haiku that’s related to the theme yet not identical. This is my first attempt to climb the mountain, or delve into its deep cave. Thank you for the introduction, Britta. This is a preview for next Tuesday’s poetry challenge.
Estoy enamorada.

Hiding in Limestone Caves
35C, hot afternoon on country roads. Looking for the quiet shade of a maple or noisy human machines to desizzle the air. Buying tickets to submerge in a water carved world. Entering the coolness of a cave, 10C round the year. Smell of damp rock, angel droplets kissing our hair, winding columns we must not touch or halt their centuries’ floor to ceiling marriage of sediment. Emerging holding hands, blinking, fires banked.
Lofty stalactite
so patiently awaiting
the floored stalagmite

Estalactita
paciente en esperar
estalagmita

(For my email subscribers, had to change the photos because the computer filter did not like the stalagmite shapes.)

So these very the caves you were talking about!
It’s fascinating.
Seems like, you had a great time.

Thanks, Carolyn. I had posted a photo of stalagmites, but WordPress must have thought it risque because it didn’t show up in the usual blog feed! So I reposted it with less problematic images.

Cool subject to pair with your haibun. Kartchner Caverns, in AZ, is a fantastic cave destination!

On childhood trips to relatives in sultry Upstate New York, cool Howe Caverns was a hoped-for treat. Thanks for the reminder.
