The Chazen museum has a wide range of modern works. I was interested to see a sculpture by Claes Oldenburg and his partner Coosje van Bruggen. Their Cherry on a Spoon is iconic in the Walker Museum sculpture garden in Minneapolis.
Their work brought humor to the overly serious art world. I can see why!

How interesting – and seeing this picture sent me down a rabbit hole. I recalled seeing a similar sculpture at an outdoor sculpture park in Seattle. Looking it up on Wikipedia, I see that one of the former sculptures was “Typewriter Eraser, Scale X” by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. Thanks not only for a delightful picture but a little jaunt down memory lane!

Thanks, Vidah. They went for absurd, playful art because they thought modern art took itself too seriously.

Really big eraser; bad grades? taken care of, misunderstanding? no problem, messy room? all neat.
