Hola, soy Rebecca Cuningham. Welcome to Fake Flamenco! ¡Bienvenidos! I’ve created a website about travel in Spain and Latin America, including articles on culture, history, language and raising a bilingual child. Over the past ten years I’ve written a book called Supergringa in Spain: A Travel Memoir about studying abroad. It’s like Room with a View meets David Sedaris’ Me Talk Pretty One Day. Minnesota girl goes abroad with seven suitcases, to discover new ways of thinking from Latin Americans and Spaniards, woman of the world comes home and jettisons much of her US baggage to live a bilingual life. I’m currently looking for representation by a literary agent.

So, what’s this “fake flamenco”? That’s me pretending to dance without formal instruction, or to speak a second language without mistakes. It’s a metaphor for learning; making closer approximations until we succeed in understanding or being understood.

Select the latest blog post for a taste! Or, join me in España. ¡Olé!

P.S. To learn Flamenco dance, vocals or guitar, visit Carmen de las Cuevas, Granada.

  2. Rebecca, I was already following your blog, but I didn’t realize you’d spent so much time in Spain, which is my favorite country, specifically Barcelona. ¿y habla Español?
