Shot’s So Not Worth the Bite

I remember as I took two steps off the path, that I was conscious of taking a risk. There I joked with myself, “the shot’s not worth it, Rebecca. In two weeks, you’re going to be telling yourself that the shot was not worth it.” I clicked the photo and got back on the path. Then I forgot about it like it had never happened. I didn’t check my shoes or pants for ticks. I didn’t do a tick check at home either.

Now, all that’s left is for me to forgive myself, eat and sleep well, and resolve to check for ticks after every hike this summer…

  1. The critical moment …. I remember hubby scolding me last summer for stepping off the path to pick a blackberry … Covid overshadowed tick bites, but it seems the ticks didn’t go away …

  2. In the moment, you don’t think that it would happen to you, until it actually happens later. It happens to most of us, and it’s a matter of forgiving yourself and to recover from it. I hope you get well soon!

  3. Oh My Goodness! So sorry to hear about this, Rebecca. We have a big tick problem here in Massachusetts, and, even though it’s a pain, I wear those velcro on mesh shin tick protectors if I go even a little off the trail.
    Sigh….
It was a good pic, though!
    Cheers,

      1. Polish maybe? I understand eastern Europe eats lots of beets. We had lunch at a Ukrainian (Slava Ukrainy) restaurant in new York last year, they had beets every other way on the menu… 😉
